When charity (and aid) is the wrong approach

I just ran across this lecture today and felt that it really is worth posting. In this provocative talk, Ugandan journalist Andrew Mwenda asks us to reframe the "African question" -- to look beyond the media's stories of poverty, civil war and helplessness and see the opportunities for creating wealth and happiness throughout the continent.

Now... is anyone listening to this man and the other voices calling for a change in the way we seek to help Africa? In the end all we can do is conitnue down the path of seeking to do the right thing which will mean taking the time to listen and learn from those we seek to minister to. Thanks for this post!

No one with the real power to do anything EVER listens to stuff like this. Look at the American welfare system; it's the exact same story and all they're doing is pouring more and more gold into a sinking ship. (And everyone knows it - it's just that throwing money at something is easier than actually assessing and addressing the actual problem.)
